The cosplay that was the most fun to do during this Powerpuff Girls project was definitely Buttercup. I always thought that I look good wearing green, and in brunette or black hair. I knew the ideas for Buttercup was going to complement my features. First and foremost, I owned a wig that’s a bob style with straight bangs, I used it before for my Malaria cosplay, which is from the Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Not sure if you know, but Malaria was Grim’s girlfriend. Anyway, back to Buttercup. So that was the last time I used that wig, but Buttercup has a bob. I thought the wig would be perfect.
As for the make up, I was debating if I was going to go very green, like how I went very blue with Bubbles or red like Blossom. After sleeping on the idea, I decided to be a little simpler, because she’s a tomboy. My idea was to use natural, earthy tones on my top lid and on my bottom lash line I decide to put a bright green. The lash line acted as an accent for my eye shape, and the green colored contacts that I found on Lensweets. I already have a scar on my right eyebrow, so I highlighted by using a concealer. I wanted to remind people she’s tough.
Which brings me to the contacts. Just like bubbles and blossom, I found contacts off a website called Lensweets (the discount will be in the Discount section of the website). I wasn’t concerned with the green contacts as I was with Bubbles. Like I mentioned before with Bubbles, the blue contacts gave blue green tone, whereas Buttercup it was a true green color contact.
As for Buttercup’s outfit I was still going for the Star Wars and Powerpuff Girls combination, When I was looking at Buttercup, she’s green and has black hair. I thought to myself, which Star Wars outfits I can use for her? I started looking at the Star Wars roster again during the different movies and TV shows. I saw characters that had brown earthy color outfits, which is funny to say because of Star Wars. Nothing is really earthy about Star Wars. However, that’s the best way I can describe the brown colors that I experienced. Also, the outfit I had in mind would complement Buttercup’s black hair and green eyes.
I got the same light saber brand from Amazon that I got for Bubbles. Unfortunately, the green one that I got from Amazon has the same issues as the blue. It wasn’t as bright, so like the other Powerpuff Girls, I had to use the photographers light stick to act as a light saber, and it worked perfectly. Which we shouldn’t have to do, but that was our reality and we needed a solution.
For my reels, I opted for another closet cosplay. I found a green jumpsuit that I owned for a few years now. The top of the jumpsuit was off the shoulder. The outfit was simple, cute, and easy to move in. I did a combination of scenes from the Powerpuff show and one of my favorite movies, Mean Girls.
